IRONMAN KALMAR

Ironman is a folk festival in Kalmar and on Öland. The official Ironman competition is held auguast 19 and you can be a part of the festival as well. The competitors begin by swimming 3,8 kilometres in the Kalmar Strait, then going by bicycle for 180 kilometres throught city streets and country roads, many of which are on Öland. The competition ends by running a marathon, which is 42,2 km. The start and finish lines are located in Kalmar city centre and the atmospere is amazing! Throughout the entire route people from Kalmar, Öland, and all around the world are cheering on the great heroes who are competing. Did you know that most of the bicycling distance is on the southern part of Öland?

Tips on where to view the competition from!
Swimming
You can be on location early in the morning just as the swiming portion of the competition begins. The area around the starting line is packed with competitors and spectators alike. After the competition has started you can walk to Vågbrytarbadet, Ängöbron, or along the shoreline along the canal to get a close up of the competitors swimming. Another great place to watch is where the competitors change from swimming to bicycling, or from bicycling to running.
Bicycling
The bike lane offers lots of places to watch the competition from along the 180 km long route. You can see the competitors when they pass the water station in Färjestaden, twice. Both when they are on their way to Öland, and on their way back to the mainland. Or you can be a part of the great sea of people in the famous roundabout in Kalmar city centre. kl. 11.00 - 15.00: Läckeby (Snättebrovägen)

Running
Kalmar city centre is the right location for spectators to watch during the running portion of the competition. Stand by one of the restaurants or get a great overview of the treck along the shopping streets. If you want to experience something different you should go along the track northbound to participate in the crazy, fun party on Neptunivägen. It is a must!
The finishing line
Stortorget in Kalmar is transformed into a giant disco under the evening sky. Make sure to be there! Everyone cheers the competitors on as the run the final stretch on the Magic carpet. Finally, we can name them IRONMAN!
